SUMMARY:Railroad Corner Revisited: Orangeburg’s lost Railway
DESCRIPTION:Learn more about the 'lost history' of Orangeburg's Southern Railway Passenger Depot (1902-1941) and the area of downtown Orangeburg known locally as 'Railroad Corner'. Paul Turner from Virtual America and architecture historian Brad Mobley - both Orangeburg natives - will present an engaging talk illustrated with maps\, photos\, drawings\, and 3D digital models. Reporting on their recent in-depth historic preservation research of downtown Orangeburg circa 1900 through the 1960's\, Paul and Brad will take you on a 'virtual tour' of the corner of East Russell Street and Boulevard to illustrate how this area has changed drastically over the past 125 years. Paul has been working since September 2024 as a 'technologist-in-residence' with a group of undergraduate students from SC State University for a grant funded project sponsored by the Center for Creative Partnerships entitled The Orangeburg Metaverse. Brad has been researching downtown Orangeburg buildings for the past decade and brings local history to life through his highly detailed illustrations and architectural drawings. In addition to the live 45 minute presentation and question and answer period\, there will be an exhibit of historic photos\, maps\, new illustrations and architectural drawings and 3D models.
