Presented by the Orangeburg Part-Time Players. It’s 1962 in Baltimore, Md., and plump teenager Tracy Turnblad’s dream is to dance on “The Corny Collins Show,” a local TV dance program based on the real-life “Buddy Deane Show.” When Tracy wins a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight and meets a colorful array of characters before launching a campaign to integrate the show. “Hairspray – the Musical” is a social commentary on the injustices of parts of American society in the 1960s. “Hairspray – the Musical,” written by Marc Shaiman with lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman – and based on the book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meeham and the 1988 film by John Waters – will be directed by DeAloia and played January 15-17 and 22-24. Show times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $19 for adults and $17 for seniors older than 55 and youth younger than 16 years of age.
