Beautiful cut flowers arrangements and setting the perfect table for any occasion will be the talk of campus as Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Foundation presents its 16th annual Home and Garden Symposium on Wednesday, May 13. This year’s guest speakers are Maria Baldwin, who with her husband owns Wimbee Creek Farm in Seabrook, and celebrated floral and event designer Cricket Newman. The day will begin with flower show entry drop-off from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., followed by a silent auction and brunch catered by Buckridge Plantation from 10 to 11:45 a.m. in the atrium of OCtech’s Math and Science Center, Building R. Beginning at noon in Roquemore Auditorium, Baldwin – whose organic flower farm provides fresh-cut flowers and stems for floral design across the South – will take us from field to vase, highlighting seasonal blooms and greenery, and offering tips on flowers to grow for stunning bouquets and caring for fresh cuts. Newman, owner of Cricket Newman Designs and The Shops at Cricket Newman in Columbia, will share what it takes to set the perfect table, mixing textures and patterns with gorgeous blooms to create a tablescape ready for truly Southern celebrations. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the flower show and purchase plants following the presentations. Tickets to the Home and Garden Symposium are $50 per person. Special early bird pricing of $45 per ticket ends April 24. Funds raised assist in providing scholarships for deserving OCtech students and special projects at the college.
